So happy to see our PhD student Daniella present her work with such eloquence at The Young microbiologist of the year award. Standards were very high and it was great to see such emerging talent in UK microbiology research.
Daniella Lefteri had been nominated to represent the Microbiology Society Virus Division at the final of the Microbiology Society Howard Dalton Young Microbiologist of the year award. This highly prestigious event involves 6 microbiologists battling it out for the crown of Young Microbiologist of the year. Daniella earned her place in the final by giving a well-received talk at the national conference earlier this year in Belfast. Daniella is a 3rd year PhD student in the Virus Host Interaction Team. Her work focuses on the transmission of mosquito-borne viruses to the mammalian host. Daniella’s discoveries have highlighted important new mechanisms by which mosquito-derived factors influence host susceptibility to virus infections such as Zika and chikungunya.
She certainly did us proud in the final!
